# Cellular Notecard Data usage

With the use of note templates I am able to reduce the storage requirements needed to store notes on the notecard.  
Does this also reduce the amount of data sent to the notehub or do I need to use compact?

Hi @iseries1,

Using templates does reduce the amount of data sent to Notehub, but to achieve additional savings, you can use `"format":"compact"` as well ([documented here](https://dev.blues.io/notecard/notecard-walkthrough/low-bandwidth-design/#creating-compact-templates)).

We also have a [guide for estimating data usage](https://dev.blues.io/notecard/notecard-walkthrough/low-bandwidth-design/#data-usage-estimates) - which I’ll work on getting updated to include a section for using compact templates soon.
