# Sparrow Boards - Pairing without Notecard connected to network

Is there any way for the sparrow boards to pair without the notecard connecting to a network? If there are network problems/etc, the board LEDs are constantly crawling and I cannot seem to do any other operation with the board unless the notecard it is connected to registers a network connection. When trying to pair the boards without the notecard connected (via qwiic), they both seem to act as boards with sensors (even though one does not have the BME sensor connected) and do not pair with each other.

Hi @jgeckard,

Sorry that we missed your question and this is a super late response.

Were you able to figure this out? The boards should be able to pair, but as soon as they realize they’re a hub they’ll loop until they find a network connection from the Notecard.
