# When do Routes fire?

Very basic question here: when does a Route fire? Is it on an Outbound Sync (as I assume) or some other trigger? Reason for asking is that I’d like to manage the Routes based on program logic and timers so that I’m not firing too frequently. Thanks

Hey @drewcssv,

Basically yes. Notehub handles data coming in from the Notecard one Note at a time. As each Note comes in, Notehub will process the Note and register it as an Event, and then check whether any routes need to be triggered.
