Can it be replaced with a 3xAAA battery holder? Will 3xAAA batteries be able to provide required peak power?

Since the voltage of AAAs is the same as a AAs you should be ok. Just note that the capacity of AAAs is significantly less, so I don’t know if I would recommend it. There is some related content in this forum thread too:
