We are working on a project that utilizes an esp32 MCU and communication via a web server to send an email when there is a system fault detected. This method of communicating fails once the device has switched to Cellular if WIFI fails. We would really like to avoid having 2 different sets of firmware and were wondering if anyone could shed light on this issue or offer guidance? It is a custom board and project.
Hi @JGilmer and welcome to the Blues community!
Are you using the ESP32 for Wi-Fi and the Notecard for cellular? When you say “This method of communicating fails once the device has switched to Cellular…” can you provide more context/info on what “fails” means (i.e. locks up, cell doesn’t work, etc)?
If you want to avoid using two sets of firmware and still want the Wi-Fi to cellular fallback capability, I would look at our own Notecard Cell+WiFi offerings that provides that capability built in.
Thanks,
Rob
We are using a wifi+cellular card. The issue our programmer has raised is that there is an issue with using a web server. To the point that he wants to create multiple firmware to operate the device and we wish to avoid this if possible.
Unfortunately he is not very forthcoming with the problem he is having.
I will share more as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Hi @JGilmer,
It’s not clear to me why multiple firmware binaries are required, as the Notecard Cell+WiFi literally allows for seamless fallback from wifi to cell when needed (and will automatically switch back to wifi).
I suspect the core issue your programmer has is this idea of hitting your cloud endpoint directly instead of using Notehub? If that’s the case, that’s what our web transactions are used for.
Rob
Thank you Rob. I have shared your response with our programmer hoping that he will reach out to you. If he does not we will decide the best approach.
Let me ask a question as the patent holder and I are discussing our options at this point. Does your company offer services to aid us in developing firmware?
Thanks
Hi @JGilmer,
We don’t directly provide those services but can refer you to one of our partners if needed.
Thanks,
Rob
Thank you Rob.
If you can recommend someone in the Boston, Ma or Raleigh, Nc area that would be amazing.
Thanks
Hi @JGilmer,
Sure - if you click the “Get Help Finding a Partner” button at the bottom of the catalog I linked to above we can help you out!
