Iridium (internal) GPS

Hi,

Regarding the Iridium satellite configuration, does the internal GPS ‘live’ on the Iridium board OR the Notecard? If it is on the Iridium board, is the behavior the same as the Starnote configuration?

regards, Rich

Hi @richf,

does the internal GPS ‘live’ on the Iridium board OR the Notecard?

Just like with Starnote for Skylo, Starnote for Iridium does include its own GNSS/GPS receiver. The difference is it shares that single u.FL connector for an Iridium-certified antenna that handles both NTN/GPS.

is the behavior the same as the Starnote configuration?

Yes, the GPS behavior is the same between Starnote for Skylo and Starnote for Iridium. The one thing I would point out is that setting a “fixed” GPS location does not speed anything up with Iridium like it can with Skylo.

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob, Thx for the quick response.

Is there a preferred ‘choice’ of the GPS engine ‘location’ (Notecard vs Satellite? Should the GPS engine NOT being used be disabled?

regards, Rich ..

Hi @richf,

There is no explicit “preferred” route, but personally I would stick with the default (meaning the one on the Starnote module). You don’t have to disable anything as Notecard is smart enough not to enable it if it’s not in use.

Thanks,
Rob
