Notecarrier CX and antenna

A couple of questions:

Will you open source the Notecarrier CX hardware design files?

Second question is: for a product to be placed in remote locations, would you use a flexible antenna or would you go for an on-pcb-board antenna with a propper ground plane?

Regards,

Ivan

Hey @iarakis,

Will you open source the Notecarrier CX hardware design files?

Yes, but not until the CX is out of beta. I don’t have an exact date for you, but that should be happening in the next month or two.

Second question is: for a product to be placed in remote locations, would you use a flexible antenna or would you go for an on-pcb-board antenna with a propper ground plane?

There’s a lot that goes into antenna selection. We have a full guide here if you haven’t seen it yet Antenna Guide - Connected Product Guidebook .

Personally I like starting with the flexible antenna because: 1) you get one with every Notecard, 2) you can position it away from potential interference, and 3) it keeps your design decoupled from a specific antenna while you’re still testing.

Long term though, if you’re looking to scale or design your own board, we recommend reaching out to someone that specializes in antenna design. We’ve worked a lot with Ignion (we use their onboard antennas in some Notecards and the Notecarrier A), and they have a variety of services that can help.
